Ridesharing company, Uber Technologies signs Chicago’s largest lease of the year. The old post office located at 433 W. Van Buren Street in downtown Chicago is now home to one of Uber’s divisions, making way at 463,000 SF of space. The building, which has been vacant for 20 years, is now going under an $800 million redevelopment. In addition to Uber, a number of other high-profile tech companies are looking to Chicago over other locations such as New York or Los Angeles due to Chicago still being relatively cheaper in comparison to bigger cities. This addition to the city certainly helps boost Chicago’s growth and attracts more tech companies to move towards the Midwest. Other companies Uber joins in downtown Chicago include Google, Facebook, Salesforce along with McDonald’s and Cisco Systems looking to consolidate space in Chicago. As bigger companies continue to move within the city, it may influence more companies, big and small to look for office spaces in the Midwest.
